It's All Mental Health Matters Until...
- until you're on holiday, at a party, or doing something you used to love, but you can't relax. Then people tell you that you need to learn how to have fun.
- everyone loves to talk about mental health until the person healing stops being convenient, agreeable, strong, or easy to understand
- you withdraw and go quiet for weeks. Then people decide you're a bad friend instead of wondering if you're struggling.
- you leave a social gathering early because you're overwhelmed, and people accuse you of being rude or killing the mood.
- you're still struggling years later, and someone asks, "Shouldn't you be over this by now?"
- you need reassurance, and you're told you're needy, exhausting or too much.
- you're genuinely scared to leave the house, and people tell you to stop being dramatic and just get on with your life.
- you stop being the person who holds everyone else together, and suddenly you're the one letting people down.
- you need to know where you're going, who will be there and people call you controlling instead of understand why uncertainty is difficult for you
- your trauma makes you difficult to be around, and suddenly nobody asks what you're struggling with. They just want you to stop.
- you set boundaries, and the people who benefitted from you have none call you selfish.
- you overthink every little decision, and people get frustrated because they don't understand how frightening it can feel to get something wrong.
