Expecting

I Became Calm When I Stopped Expecting You

I stopped expecting you to call,
To show, to care, to try at all,
And strangely, peace began to grow
Where disappointment used to show.

Expectation kept me tied
To every place you failed to rise,
It made your absence hurt me twice,
Once in truth and once in mind.

Now I expect less from the wrong,
And more from where I do belong,
I became calm when I set free --
The hope that kept disappointing me.
