Signs

 by Elizabeth Fedrick

Yep, the irony is not lost on me...

That some of the signs of a "healthy" partner are actually the very things that trigger us the most.

Someone who clearly communicates their boundaries...instead of people-pleasing or giving in to our every request.

Someone who openly expresses their fears and needs...instead of suppressing them to make us comfortable.

Someone who will take the time and space they need to regulate...instead of engaging when they aren't in a safe place to do so.

Someone who challenges us, holds us accountable, and isn't afraid to share how they feel.

These types of partners don't expect perfection...

On the contrary...They are actually willing and capable of loving us through all of our imperfections.

However, they do have expectations...

Including a partner who is safe, emotionally mature, and who is MUTUALLY willing to put in real efforts towards a healthy relationship.

But when we are used to inconsistency and emotional chaos...those qualities can feel distant and uncomfortable.

Because it's easy to mistake their calmness for detachment...or their directness for criticism.

But in truth, this is what healthy love looks like.

Sooo...if reading this list made you a bit irritated or uncomfortable...

You might wanna check in on that.
