True Christian

Ben posted something on his Facebook that true Christians wouldn't take advantage of grace as an excuse to sin. That actually made me think that being a "true Christian" is different than being saved.

You can be saved and mess up being a Christian. It doesn't mean you lose your salvation. Sure, you shouldn't mess up on purpose, but it's comforting to know that when you do, it doesn't necessarily mean you were never saved, it just means that you might not be walking in obedience to the Lord. That's sad too, but it's reassuring to me to realize they're separate. It's the difference between being a child of God and following God. Both are important, and not obeying God can be an indication that someone isn't truly saved, but it is not always the case.

More thoughts from Ben: A true Christian will not treat God's grace as a license to wantonly and consistently sin.

It is impossible for a true Christian to take advantage of (abuse) God's grace.

Romans 6:1-2
Dead to Sin, Alive to God
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
