Grows up

(screenshot cut off where that was from)

when a child grows up around unpredictable
anger, withdrawal, criticism, or emotional volatility,
they often become unusually attentive to other
people's moods, noticing a change in tone,
expression, or energy can become a way of
anticipating what might happen next.

over time, that kind of vigilance can become
automatic. the adult may register subtle
interpersonal shifts quickly and interpret them
through the lens of earlier experience, especially
in moments of uncertainty. a quieter voice,
delayed response, or slight change in affect can
activate the same question that once carried real
importance: did I do something wrong?

this is one reason trauma can shape relationships
long after the original environment has changed.
the response is often less about the present
interaction itself and more about how the brain
learned to organize attention around potential
threat.

with enough consistency, safety, and repeated
corrective experiences, those interpretations can
become less immediate and less absolute. the
goal is not to stop noticing people. it is to become
more able to notice a change without
automatically assuming responsibility for it.

Suffer

 From Elizabeth Elliot Quotes

Elizabeth Elliot ~

"If we don't ever want to suffer, we must be very careful never to love anything or anybody. The gifts of love have been the gifts of suffering. Those two things are inseparable."

Retrain

 You don't need to
"believe in yourself."
You need to retrain
the part of your
brain that doesn't.

True power

 From Elizabeth Elliot Quotes

(but this one says Anonymous)

"You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic; true power is restraint. If words control you that means everyone else can control you; breathe and allow things to pass."

Bloom

If you feel like it's
rained too much
in your life lately,
imagine all the
flowers that are
about to bloom.

~Lewis Howes

Believing

 Please get addicted
to believing that God
is working it all out
for you.

Stop

One of the best things my therapist ever told me was:

Stop assuming that people are made at you. Stop attempting to read people's minds. Stop trying to manage the thoughts and emotions of others. Let people be in charge of themselves. If they have something to say to you, they will. And if they don't, it's their responsibility, not yours.
