Children who were regularly
interrupted, unheard or
dismissed in conversation can
become adults that feel:
- Constantly rushed to get their point across
- Distracted by social cues of (dis)engagement and unable to focus on what they're trying to say
- Like their thoughts or opinions don't matter or are irrelevant
- Anxious people will get bored while they're talking
- Hesitant to tell stories or share complex thoughts for fear people will tune out
- Self-conscious about being tired, not "interesting enough", or introverted
- That people who listen are burdened by their presence
