It's so tempting not to title this "Liver Letter" but that sound disrespectful. I can't believe I haven't written about this! I will probably bring the actual letter in and record it word for word.
I was so happy to receive this on Good Friday, because I was just starting to get bummed about the holiday weekend without you. God's perfect timing. Hopefully this will remind me to write about it!
Ok, here it is:
March 10, 2016
Dear Donor Family,
I am so glad you wanted to contact me. I was getting ready to contact the coordinator to see how to contact you.
First of all I would like to say how sorry we are for the loss of your son. I have prayed for your family everyday in hopes God would give you peace and understanding. I am so glad your son is in Heaven with God. That means that I will have the opportunity to meet him someday and thank him for this wonderful gift he gave to me.
I will never be able to repay the blessing I received because of your son.
I have a son and a daughter and 4 grandchildren and I am so happy to be able to spend more time with them. Also I thank God everyday for my husband of 43 years. He is a very patient man and has been the best caregiver ever for the last three years.
Since my surgery I take less blood pressure medicine and my lungs have improved so much. My new liver has been such a blessing. For the first time I am out of pain and feel really good. I had forgotten what it was like to feel well.
In order to build my strength we walk everyday at the mall or in stores or at home. I can't do much heavy stuff yet.
My quiet time is spent reading. The Bible, Richard Paul Evans, Max Lucado, and Mitch Albom.
I would sure love to meet your family and learn more about your son. I want to keep in touch with you and hopefully we can meet someday soon.
There is one thing I have learned for sure There is Power in Prayer.
God bless you all.
PS: I have enclosed 2 bookmarks I bought a while back and I hadn't decided who to give them to yet. I would like you to have them.
Personal notes: I sent our letters out in the beginning of December, so I don't know why it took so long for her to get it.
The bookmarks were from the Max Lucado series You'll Get Through This. The same theme of the tract I included with the letters and in your thank-you notes. I also have a few books of it and a daily calendar. The have a green ribbon with a metal thing at the end with the little growth coming through the cracks.
The letter came from Gift of Life and included waivers to sign where we can find out the lady's name and she can find out ours.
