If two people are in a rowboat and
one has an oar, they both have to row
to make the boat move forward, if only
one person rows the boat, the boat will
go around in circles and not get
anywhere. Hearing this set of
statements, one of our clients said, "I
would just row harder," to which her
therapist responded, "Then I guess you
would go around in circles faster."
